Welcome to the web site of the Band of Avon Fire and Rescue Service, a concert wind band based in Bath.   Our Director of Music is Alan Peacock.

We perform a very broad spectrum of music styles and genre, and are available throughout the year to perform concerts or provide music at engagements and events.  Our primary location is  Bristol, Bath and surrounding areas, but we have played as far away as Aix-en-Provence.

We welcome new players at any time of the year, either to join the concert band, or, if less experienced, our intermediate band ‘Brass Wind and Fire’.  If you are interested, or know of anyone who would like to join us, please contact us.  If you’d like to have the band play at an event you are organising, it’s the same email address – info@avonfireandrescueband.org

Scroll down the page for more information, or use the menu bar at the top.

Upcoming Concerts

Sorry folks, if you weren’t there, you’ve missed a great night out!   Photos and a report of the evening will appear on the website in a couple of days (when the film gets back from the chemist)

Concert Wind Band

The band is delighted to announce details of our ambitious next concert, which is to be a benefit for the Fire Fighters’ Charity.  Click on the image to the the left to see the full poster!

We’ll be in  the Roper Theatre, a splendid performance venue at Hayesfield School, in the Oldfield Park area of Bath.   Joining us on stage will be the Corps of Drums of our neighbouring service, Devon and Somerset.

Jonty Messer, the main newsreader for ITV News West Country, has generously agreed to be our host for the evening.

It’s going to be a great night, with the doors opening at 7pm for a 7.30pm curtain up.

There’ll be more detail coming on this website soon, but if you want to be sure of getting a seat, contact the Bath Box office now.  Tickets, at £10 each (£5 to age 16) are on sale

You can drop in to see them at the Tourist Information Centre in Bath (Terrace Walk, aka Bog Island to the locals) or call them on 01225 463322, email on bathboxoffice.co.uk or book online by following this link:

Later this year we have two Summer appearances at local parks –

on the 9th June, at 3pm at Victoria Park, Bath, and the 23rd June, at 2pm, Keynsham Park.  (times provisional at day of posting, 22nd Feb)

We hope to see you all at one of these concerts (or maybe all three) , and that you’ll enjoy the new musical selections we are working on.

Joining the band

If you’re a musician looking for a Band to join in the Bristol, Bath & surrounding areas, welcome – you don’t have to be a firefighter – any musician can apply to join us!   We have bands to suit all musicians, from absolute beginners and returners to playing (for example, people who learned to play an instrument at school but have never played since) and accomplished players

The concert wind band rehearses on Monday evenings at 7.30pm at the Management Development centre of the Avon Fire & Rescue Service, which is to the North of Bath, just beyond the racecourse.  You do need a car to get there, unfortunately, but the good news is that there’s plenty of parking, which is very rare in the Bath area!

The intermediate band (Brass, Wind and Fire – BWF for short) and the training band rehearse on Wednesday evenings, also at the Lansdown centre.
