Welcome to the web site of the Band of Avon Fire and Rescue Service, a concert wind band based in Bath.   Our Director of Music is Alan Peacock.

We (normally) perform a very broad spectrum of music styles and genre, and are (usually) available throughout the year to perform concerts or provide music at engagements and events.  Our primary location is  Bristol, Bath and surrounding areas, but we have played as far away as Aix-en-Provence.

We welcome new players at any time of the year, either to join the concert band, or, if less experienced, our intermediate band ‘Brass Wind and Fire’ – but the intermediate band will not be resuming until we can return to our usual premises in Lansdown.  We hope this will happen in the near future!

If you are interested in joining us, or know of anyone who would like to, please email

If you’d like to have the band play at an event you are organising, it’s the same email address for initial enquiries –

Upcoming Concerts

Concert Wind Band

7th April 2022

We have finally been able to open the books for concerts for Summer 2022, and the following concerts are scheduled:

Saturday 11th June – a grand Jubilee Charity Concert at the Roper Theatre, Bath, with guests from the Devon & Somerset F&RS concert band and corps of drums.   Tickets are now on sale – see the News items page.

Sunday 31st July – an afternoon concert in the park at the bandstand in Keynsham

Joining the band

If you’re a musician looking for a Band to join in the Bristol, Bath & surrounding areas, welcome – you don’t have to be a firefighter – any musician can apply to join us!   We have bands to suit all musicians, from absolute beginners and returners to playing (for example, people who learned to play an instrument at school but have never played since) and accomplished players

The concert wind band rehearses on Monday evenings at 7.30pm at the Management Development centre of the Avon Fire & Rescue Service, which is to the North of Bath, just beyond the racecourse.  You do need a car to get there, unfortunately, but the good news is that there’s plenty of parking, which is very rare in the Bath area!

Right now we’re actively looking to recruit experienced Trumpet and Cornet players – please contact us if you’re interested in joining.

If you’re not sure about jumping in to the concert band straight away – for instance if you are (or hope to be) a ‘returning player’ or haven’t played in a band before, then come along on a Wednesday night.   Brass, Wind and Fire – BWF for short – is our intermediate band and it’s meant for you!  BWF and the training band (for beginners) rehearse on Wednesday evenings, also at the Lansdown centre.
