The band has been in existence under several different names since 1954. Originally the band was named The Bristol Fire Brigade Brass Band, having split from the joint Fire and Police Service Band. However, changes in instrumentation, musical styles and local government over the years have led to the current name and concert wind band formation, which includes woodwind, brass and percussion instruments.
2004 saw the 50th anniversary of the band and this was celebrated over a weekend in Bournemouth when the band performed two public concerts and a civilised amount of celebratory eating and drinking.
October 13th 2014 marked the Band’s official 60th birthday, celebrated by a “family” birthday party when all three constituent Bands got together. During the evening, our longest serving member, Norman Hill, was presented with a certificate from the Chief Fire Officer marking 60 years of continuous membership of the Band. Norman was, in fact, in the Fire and Police Band beforehand and has never left.
